how to use xxx.debian.tar.gz

Asked by Ginsi

I need to rebuild nut package in order to include driver usbhid-ups that, according to relevant man page, "is not built by default".

I am trying to follow instructions from "https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompilingEasyHowTo", which make reference to just one tarball file; but under "http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/precise/nut" (under "Download nut") three files are listed, two of which are tarballs. In my understanding the file "nut_2.6.3-1ubuntu1.1.debian.tar.gz" contains patches to be applied, but the instructions I am following do not mention how to do this.

I hope my question is not out of scope here, and thank in advance for helping me.

If you want to download the source of a Ubuntu package you can do that with "apt-get source".
