Correct nova/cinder database mismatch

nova show of instance "2c" shows an attached volume.

nova volume-detach fails because it says no volume attached.

nova start of instance "2c" fails and the console indicates, "/data is not ready type 'S' to skip or 'M' for manual recovery. The instance hangs because it's waiting (the default).

nova show of instance "1c" shows no volume attached.

nova start of instance "1c" fails because it is hanging when trying to mount /data (with the same error message).

I'm new to Ubuntu and OpenStack. I could really use some help figuring out if I can safely straighten these instances and volumes out so that they correctly indicate volume attached or detached.
