general nova packaging questions, novnc/nova-console issues

Asked by Alexander Gordeev

i'm using ubuntu 12.04

if i want to use VNC console in the dashboard, i need to install some packages from the universe, but not from the main.

these packages are:
nova-console (it is missing upstart service scripts for both nova-console and nova-consoleauth) and novnc (which is outdated from essex release, filled bugreport here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/novnc/+bug/956949 ).

do you have any plans for moving this packages to the main?

If it resolves package issues then yes it will more than likely.
What do you use VNC for, what do you connect to the other system to achieve?

sorry for confusing, by VNC i mean VNC console in the nova dashboard (horizon). I use it for... i don't know, i think it is the dashboard feature that should work out of the box.

But for what reason do you need to connect?

VNC is the only way to access the instance if some some network/firewall issues occurs.
And i'm using windows instances, too.

Can you help with this problem?
