please update the nomacs to 3.16 the current one is too old

the current package is too old and has many bugs please update it to latest stable to nomacs 3.16

Additionally you have to be aware that Ubuntu is copying software from Debian (to avoid double packaging work) and also Debian has only version 3.12. There is already a bug report in the Debian bug tracker requesting an update https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=974617

If the version in the repositories is supported then it isn't too old. If it is unsupported then please submit a bug report to get the version updated. This is what makes something "too old"

If you urgently need the 3.16 version, then you can switch to the flatpack package https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.nomacs.ImageLounge
