ninja-build for xenial is out of date

ninja-build for xenial is version 1.5.1-0.1ubuntu1 and needs to be updated to version 1.7.1

When will the be updated?

Why does it "need" to be updated? Are there dangerous bugs or security flaws in the existing version?

If you are aware of these, please report a bug. If they are significant then the package will be updated sooner rather than later. Packages in Ubuntu don't get updated just because a new version is out. Ubuntu is not a rolling release and packages are very often not up to date as stability is champion over getting the latest packages.

I found this PPA which will upgrade the version:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dirk-computer42/c42-backport-staging
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

It comes with the usual caveats of a PPA.

Ok, maybe needs is a bit strong. I'm not aware of security related changes but it is "recommended" to be updated do to the significance of the fixes/enhancement applied since the 1.5.1 version. The 1.7.1 version was released in Apr and the master branch only has a few other minor changes since then.

Then report a bug stating why it's recommended.

Recommended doesn't mean it's mandatory
