Trying to start nfs-idmapd service on an nfs client fails.

Asked by Jan Skarvall

I believe that on an nfs client host that used systemd, the nfs-idmapd service shall not be started. At least, this seems to be the case on my Ubuntu 16.04 host.

Therefor I wonder why the Ubuntu 16.04 nfs-common package installs the nfs-idmapd.service unit file.

Trying to start it gives:

root@asus:~# systemctl start nfs-idmapd.service
Failed to start nfs-idmapd.service: Unit nfs-server.service not found.
root@asus:~#
