New Ubuntu user - updated software, need to roll back.

Asked by jomafoos

Just opened new netbook to begin working and the software updater began to update. I was not aware the version being downloaded did not support my internal wireless card. how can I uninstall/roll back to previous version and gain wireless?

If you want to get back to the previous release of Ubuntu and the installation is new I think its wiser to reinstall it. Get the LiveCD of the release you want from Ubuntu.com.

Otherwise search in the questions here how to get wireless working. Type in the search field "wireless", your netbook name and may be the release of Ubuntu you are working now.

With my Dell Mini netbook, my goal was to get away from optical drives, so the cd I received to reinstall does not help; I have downloaded the 8.04version.iso from the website, but it trying to mount it, I receive this error message:

http://jomafoos1.blogspot.com/2009/09/linux-challenge.html

I have been trying other means to correct this, such as utilizing the hardware drivers, but I get no results. I have also referenced bug #300784 (The instructions I used are here, steps 1, 2e, and 3:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Feisty_No-Fluff), but this is beyond my current technical skill in Ubuntu, since this is day 2 with this system.

Any ideas on how to mount the iso and reinstall 8.04?
