Wireless connection Lockup

Asked by Tasoaden

Fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 and have a wired network cable connected to download all relevant drivers and packages. Installed the required NDISWRAPPER tools dictated by https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper after installing NDISWRAPPER I used the administration-> Windows Wireless Drivers tool to install my WMP300N.

lspci returns: Broadcom Corporation BCM43XG (rev 01)

On network manager I see my wireless network, but it does not find a connection. I manually inputted my network information with no Wifi security and when it starts to establish connection (one green light on NM) it locks up the system. When I reboot it locks up on reboot. I believe the reboot is the system connecting to the wifi network and locks up. Only way for me to get my system back up is to turn my router Wifi WPA security on.

I am brand new to Linux, any help would be great. Thanks for your time.

Watch the file /etc/network/interfaces
it MUST contain ONLY these two lines to work with Network Manager, so remove every other lines if there are:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
