A 6 year old bug with a fix still not merged into release

Asked by K

Hi! I was wondering how this is possible. A 6 year old bug that's confirmed and with a confirmed fix is still at "Confirmed" stage without being merged into release. What needs to be done by whom for this to be fixed (and maybe not happen in the future?!)?

Ubuntu is copying that software from Debian. Therefore the right addressee for such request is Debian.

Maybe one of the bugs
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=912576
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=931474
is already covering that problem.

The most promising way is creating a bug report in the Debian bug tracker (unless it already exists) and a bug in the Ubuntu bug tracker on Launchpad with a link to the Debian bug (in form of a remote bug watch).

Remarks: Creating a bug report for Ubuntu with the title "better uninstall Ubuntu" is inappropriate.
