Try Right clicking on the network-manager applet (upper right corner) and then choosing "Edit connections"
This will open a windows with five tabs the third one is called "mobile internet connection" there you'll be able to access the modem and its networking capabilities and configurations.
I have the same modem and that solve it for me. The only thing is that probably you'll be needing a password (Sometimes it ask for it, I'm not sure why) for that you can either seek in the .inf files than you can find in the modem (the modem is also detected as a virtual cd-rom drive) or call your ISP and ask for it. At least here in Argentina the ISPs use the same password for all cellphones and modems, so I don't think you'll have much problem finding them.

Hope it helps!

Thanks, Federico. I have done what you said, but still the AUTORUN is not working. Have you any other suggestion? Cheers.

Ahh! that's your problem! the AUTORUN will never work, because is for windows only, you don't need it in ubuntu, as the Huawei modem is detected by the linux kernel as any other phone (that modem is basically a very limited cell phone). The only thing you need is the user name and password (some times) all the rest is done for you by the network-manager. At least thats how it worked for me and some friends of mine that use the same modem.
BUT as I'm not an expert in this matter and I assume is quite possible that I've been just lucky, I send you a links regarding the Huawei modems. (it's not especifilaly about the e166 but they are all the same)

Julian: tenés razón la pregunta dice ser en español (no me había dado cuenta), será cuestión de cambiarlo. Salu2
