Ubuntu 8.10 Network Connection Problem

Asked by Synus

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my computer which is also using Windows XP Service Pack 3.

My network card is an Atherons L2 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller Network device, which is built into a ASUS P5GC-MX Series motherboard. When Ubuntu finished installing, both the network for Ubuntu and Windows was showing no connection.

I checked the cable on other PC and the modem and the signal was good. What causes this and how to fix it, so that I can access the internet using both Ubuntu and Windows XP?

I also had a Linux driver for the Network device, which came with the motherboard install disk, for linux, but I have no idea how to install it or whether it is suitable for this Ubuntu Linux version.

Any help to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards
Geoff Partridge

I have uninstalled the program, as it is to complicated for me, as i am not from an IT background. I have trouble installing software, drivers and I had an IT guy come and look at it and he couldn't get it to work either.

So back to troublesome Windows XP :(

Thankyou for your response Bhavani
