ubuntu 8.04 :IP address keeps on changing when ever I boot.

Asked by harshavardhan

I am using ubuntu 8.04 alone in my laptop.
My config:2gb ram;
                2 Ghz AMD turion 64x2 processor;
                [model is hp pavilion dv6705au]
My problem is,every time I boot the system my IP address changes randomly.Even if I try to keep static IP address,it fails.The connection shows eth 0 at first time after installation.Then after every reboot the number increments by 1,that is it keeps on going like eth 0;eth 1;eth 2; eth 3;..........and so on.At present it is showing as eth 63.
So,please help me....

thanking you..
