Dial up comnnection does not connect to Internet

Asked by srikumar

I have been setting up a dial up modem connection on a friends computer using a 56 Kb external Soundblaster modem.

So far, using wvdial, I have been able to receive and send emails through Evolution Mail without any problem but unable to connect to the internet. The resulting message is - you are not online, try again. I have been running wvdial and trying to connect to the Internet whilst the terminal remained open.

As suggested in Chapter 5 of Ub Docs - I have tried System>Adminstration>Network Tools - it opens out but there is no Modem connection or P to P connection tab. System>Preferences gives me the Network Configuration and Network Proxy menus which too do not have the required tabs. I cannot find it under any other menu tab either - any help on this ?

The dip and dialout USERNAME has already been given.

What more needs to be done to connect to the internet.
any suggestions ?
thanks

I am hanging up on this question because my friend has decided to go back to WXp since the command line format is way beyond to use even once in a way.

As for me I don't mind the using command line interface once in a way, especially with community backed assistance.
