Can't connect to Internet

Hi I have just installed Ubuntu 8.10 and am unable to connect to the Internet I have an AOL BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem The power light is on, the DSL and Data lights remain, off any suggestions

Hi,

You need to configure your ADSL connection from the Network menues (ADSL, PPP configurator)

I have some how been able to configure and light up my modem. However,when connecting to to AOL the computer stops working the whole system is frozen I have to switch the computer Off to restart. Any suggestions?
