Wired network - Network manager in HardyH Ubuntu - doesnt 'just work'

Asked by Piet Beukes

Hi, I have just reinstalled HardyH Ubuntu on my desktop (had to reinstall because of my need for better use of the disk space) - in the process I did a clean install after totally wiping the old partitions -
NOTE: Previously network manager 'just worked' with Hardy. Now it does not work or 'kick-in'.

* the wired network shows 4 possibilities
1) wired network (via techn. vt6102 (rhine-II)
2) wired network (sundance techn. .... ethernet)
3) connect to 802.1x protected wired network
4) manual configuration

in the past I just clicked on the network icon and it showed 1) or 2) and I clicked on on of the two and it worked.

the system uses a Tolgent router (which is working well) with a fiber optic cable used by the company to which I subscribe

any ideas

Hi, my problem is solved - I did not realise it, but I have 2 network card in the PC - the one did not work - when I plugged the cable into the other card, 'it just worked' as it should be.
