in upgrade to 16.10 ethernet is not found

Asked by ealthuis

Upgrade from 16.04LTS to 16.10, Ethernet cannot be found
In the "Network" app the wired section indicates "Wired Unmanaged"
Hardware Address is 00:1d:60:35:c9:38
The router has that address on file
When pressing "Options" I get: Error editing connection, Did not find a connection with UUID '(null)'
Where do I go from here?

In addition, another computer just ran a regular update and had to restart, and similar problems appeared.
I suspect that the network manager is at fault, how? I do not know. As well, the second computer's screen resolution cannot be changed or the screen changed to portrait from landscape.

Is the Ethernet enabled in the BIOS?

Did you configure the connection on /etc/network/interface?

Bios does not have a "ethernet" item
/etc/network has if-down.d, if0post-down.d, if-pre-up.d, if-up.d, interfaces.d, interfaces(text document),
interfaces.d is blank
if-pre-up.d has "ethtool" as does if-up.d

Booted 16.04LTS from a DVD, all's well, connected to wifi etc

Are there any errors you see in the network manager logs?

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingNetworkManager has info of debugging nm with logs as they can be helpful to analyse

Thanks!
