Ubuntu 14.10 is end of life (EOL) and no longer supported in any way.

I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Trusty or Wily. These are supported and will allow you to upgrade directly to Xenial in April this year.

If you like, you can install Xenial now and enjoy long term support until April 2021 without having to upgrade, but it is currently prerelease and officially unstable.
