Press ALT+F2
Type: nm-applet
Press ENTER

It's installed if network manager is installed. The applet dies if network manager gets stopped due to updates.

Try

sudo service network-manager stop

sudo rm /var/lib/Networkmanager/Networkmanger.state

sudo service netork-manager start

You should get back the nm-applet with this.

@Bindu Sunil

FYI:
Your solution partially works for me. The icon shows at the moment that I stop the service. I did issue all three commands and after a reboot the problem is back.

In general:
Experiencing the same problem as Dintyala, possibly with a small difference. The network manager is there, but is only 1 pixel wide. The first times I move the mouse over the notification area, a 1px wide vertical line shows, Remember where it is and one can access the network manager with some difficulty (just get your mouse on the right 1px wide spot ;) )

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Dintyala for more information if necessary.
