Accessing to a nas with ftp, ftp has stopped working properly in 10.04

Copying large amounts of data (about 10 Gigabytes) to and from nas, the transfer stops after a few Megabytes, this has worked perfectly in the past.

At present I need the data from the sata drive in the nas so I have attached the bare drive to a standalone computer.

I propose to reassemble the nas , boot from a live cd and see if it works, at present I do not know if I have a hardware or a software problem., however the problem did seem to occur after I had done some updates

Check the ftpd logs, it may give clues. Have you considered SFTP using SSH? It is secure, FTP is not secure.
