Downloading from Repositories - No Release File
I am trying to download code from a repository (ngsolve.org - as dellineated below). I get the messaage
below. The response below was in response to apt-get update, but I get the same response with a request
to download the desired code.
When I looked into "apt-secure" and "apt-key", I did not get an answer to how I should proceed. For example,
if I need to get/add a key, where do I get that key? If I should tell the code distributor something; what is that?
Thanks,
Tim

For diagnostic purposes please provide the full output of the commands (to be executed in a terminal window):
uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo apt-get update
grep ngsolve /etc/apt/
Can you provide a link to the instructions that you used for adding the ngsolve server?

You get that warning, because unbuntu in http://
However, https:/
Your sources.list file is probably incorrectly referring to unbuntu instead of ubuntu.
Try these Terminal commands instead:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ngsolve/ngsolve
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ngsolve
Please also send us the output of the commands in post #1 (requested by Manfred).

Manfred:
Thank you for responding to my question. I answer your second question first.
Tim
1. The link to the instructions is:
https:/
I was using the instructions for ubuntu 64-bit (15.10 and newer).
2. I copied the following from a terminal on my Ubuntu 16.04 VM (fusion), and pasted it into my Apple mail. I think I followed your
request. I do notice that the output refers to both ubuntu and unbuntu . . .

Thank you for responding to my question.
I answered Manfred’s email a few minutes ago; including the information he requested.
Upon trying your set of terminal commands, I get (what I see as) essentially the same response to
agt-get update. (After apt-add-repository ppa:ngsolve/
As I don’t know if you have access to my email response to Manfred, I attach a copy/paste of the
terminal, Yes, there is a suspicious mix of ubuntu and unbuntu in the outputs . . .

Timothy:
We need the FULL Terminal output itself, not your interpretation of the output.
Please execute the right commands instead of chopped up versions of the right commands.
For example:
Manfred asked you to run this:
grep ngsolve /etc/apt/
But you ran this instead:
grep ngsolve /etc/apt/
We can only help, if you follow the instructions correctly and send us ALL the output.
I also do not see the output for the last command I gave you (sudo apt-get install ngsolve)

Mark:
I apologize for missing part of Manfred’s final requested command.
I assume you mean, by full terminal output, that I should cut/paste the terminal. If another approach is desired, please let me know.
The copy/paste of two terminal interactions (same terminal window) are attached below:
First is the sequence of commands requested by Manfred.
Second is the command that you requested.
Thank you,
Tim

Your Terminal output shows 2 different issues:
Issue 1) /etc/apt/
/etc/apt/
Please run following Terminal command:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/
Using the gedit text editor, scroll down and REMOVE any line containing unbuntu
Save the change in gedit.
Issue 2)
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/
trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/netgen', which is also in package netgen 4.9.13.dfsg-8build2
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
So I assume that you previously installed netgen from a different source and netgen is in conflict with the ngsolve package you are trying to install.
So now you need to choose which one you want to keep: either ngsolve or netgen
The netgen version 4.9.13.dfsg-8build2 is one year older than the ngsolve version (6.2.1706-
So I assume you FIRST need to uninstall netgen using this Terminal command:
sudo apt-get purge netgen
Then install ngsolve (last updated 1 hour ago by the PPA package maintainer!) with these Terminal commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ngsolve

Thank you guys! This solved the problem.
There were a few warning messages about package authentication, but the ngsolve.org site indicates that there would be.

@frederic peugny:
Please do not piggyback on somebody else's question, but create a question document of your own. There is no possibility to track the status of your problem in a document from somebody else that has already been marked as 'solved'.
Look at https:/
Remark: Ubuntu precise is already in End-of-life status, and the only support that is still provided is the paid extended security maintenance option for selected server packages. And even this will end in a few weeks' time.
I recommend that you upgrade to a supported release of Ubuntu. This will most probably also allow installing ngsolve without further problems.
And if I talk about a supported release of Ubuntu, I do not refer to 14.04 (trusty), because this release will also go into "end of life" status within the coming month.
