How do i rename icons in the applications list

How do i rename icons in the applications list in Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition? Some Open Office Icons have truncated names, because they are so long. I'd like to shorten them.

You can edit the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications and it will change them, you may need to log off and on but that is how you can change them
