Unable to boot on USB Ubuntu NEdition 10-10

Asked by frondoso

Aloha
I used to have an USB with the 10-04. But due to a problem with synaptic and the power manager, I decided to reinstall Ubuntu on my eeePC 701. My USB was lost so I pick up my old usb with the 9.04. No problems, it worked.
But with 9.04 I ecounter problems to install flashplayer (no more youtube video, I can't !). So I pick up the iso of the 10-10, get usb-creator annd build and usb bootable with the soft.
I reboot, check my bios, and then nothing append, the grub with the 9.04 is loaded but never the usb with the 10.10
Is there anyone who could help me ?
I'm quite a noob in Linux. I only use it because it's light and fit perfectly or my eeePC.
Thaks in advance.

are you ONLY running off the usb stick? or are you trying to install ubuntu onto your netbook.

please be specific and concentrate on ONE version only. we don't care about the other version.

Hi Frondoso

I also have an eeepc 701 but didn't get as far as you :)

Marcus replied to my query about what to do after downloading the ISO, and I think what he wrote to me would solve your problem too: basically go to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ and download that. You'll need a working PC to run it on, but if you're reading this I guess you have one of those! There's a version for Linux and one for Windows. I got the Linux one, only scary things are (1) you need to give it a root password and (2) be VERY careful what drive you install the image onto!

Unetbootin looked like it was stopped after about 10% into the operation; have patience and go and have a coffee. When I came back to it after about 10 minutes it had finished and was suggesting I reboot -- which I declined, of course, since I wanted Ubuntu for the netbook, not the desktop machine. Put the USB stick into the 701, hammered on the Esc key when powering up so I got a boot menu, and I expect you know the rest.

Cheers

Frank
