Installation of Ubuntu for Netbooks

Asked by Paul Morris

I wanted to try out Ubuntu Netbook on my Asus Eee PC 1005HA. After it finished downloading, Windows did not recognise the file extension .iso and suggested WinZip (among others). I downloaded the evaluation version of WinZip but that is as far as I got - couldn't work out what to do. I was following the download instructions intending to create a USB drive, but I've obviously missed something. I do have an external CD/DVD drive - can I request a CD from Ubuntu? Thanks.

http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download gives instructions to create a bootable USB installer from the .iso.

Alternatively you can download and run infrarecorder and create a CD from the .iso. There are instructions here http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download (go to the number 2 and click on Show me how for instructions on creating a CD)

Thanks - I assumed it was all in the same download, hence my problem.
