ndiswrapper-dkms 1.57-1ubuntu1: ndiswrapper kernel module failed to build
Am a real beginner in Linux. Used the commands:
sudo apt-get sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-
sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common
sudo apt-get install ndisgtk
sudo apt-get install dkms
sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-dkms
Upon these commands and using page "How to fix "ndiswrapper not found""
unimpossible to find:
directory "modules" where ndiswrapper should be present
unimpossible to install "instwcli.inf" as windows driver. Get the error message "'Error in driver file" (or so, translated it from German).
Re-installed ndiswrapper using:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-
No success. Need for help at a very beginner's level

Converting to question because ndiswrapper isn't going to work without upgrading (see bug 1023645 ) and the error you receive indicates a problem with the Windows driver you're trying to use (which is not officially supported by Canonical/Ubuntu).

What wireless chipset are you using? If unsure, give output of lspci command (or lsusb command if it's a USB adapter).
As for the error, where did you obtain the Windows file you're trying to install?

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable) and apply all updates.
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1
In the Ubuntu Terminal console , make sure that unlimited scrolling is enabled:
click on Edit > Profiles > "Default" profile > Scrolling. Choose "Unlimited" as scrolling option. Click Close and Close again.
If you are using the Gnome interface, open the Terminal console via "Applications-
If you are using the Unity interface (default graphical user interface in Ubuntu), use the 'search' function on the dash. Or you can click on the 'More Apps' button, click on the 'See more results' by the installed section, and find it in that list of applications. A third way, available after you click on the 'More Apps' button, is to go to the search bar, and see that the far right end of it says 'All Applications'. You then click on that, and you'll see the full list. Then you can go to Accessories > Terminal after that.
So the methods in Unity are:
Press CTRL-ALT-T key combination.
Dash > Search for Terminal
Dash > More Apps > 'See More Results' > Terminal
Dash > More Apps > Accessories > Terminal
Step 2
Please copy-paste the following diagnostic command from the

website using a web browser (like Google Chromium or Mozilla Firefox) into the Linux Terminal. The command STARTS with the word sudo and ENDS with the word lsmod. So please copy-paste the ENTIRE diagnostic command below from the web browser into a Terminal, press <enter>, then enter password when sudo asks for password, then press enter again.
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the diagnostic command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!

PC is a MAXDATA ECO4045I
WLAN is alternatively
either RALINK 2500 or Fritz AC 430
Problem with RALINK: hardswitch is on, but apparently is seen as off
Status with Fritz: I succeeded to install win-driver, hardware is recovered but as I estimate, the RF-part of the stick remains inactive. From the www I recognized that Fritz AC 430 driver causes a general problem. If this is the case, I'd better like to concentrate on Ralink or is there a better choice of a USB-WLAN stick?
Access point is called "dlink"
Ubuntu runs in a 2nd partition from hard disk

So your wireless card is disabled by a hardware switch, a
special key combination (Fn-F2, etc...), by incorrect BIOS settings for
wireless, or a combination of these factors...
First reset your BIOS settings to default factory settings.
There might also be a BIOS option that allows you to have the wireless
functionality controlled "By application"
Search for the "by application" option in the BIOS and select it (if
possible)....
Also run the following 2 Terminal commands to try to change the rfkill
state of your wireless chipset:
rfkill unblock all
sudo rfkill unblock all
Then retest wireless.
I have no further suggestions to make....
