Sound settings are fine in XP ans Ubuntu.

I have found that headphones work, but the plug socket does not feel like it is broken?

Id there a way in Ubuntu to just turn speakers off?

It's annoying what do you think?

If you can use headphones but the main speakers do not work then maybe your speakers are broken, or maybe there's some trouble with the sound card.
