How can I find the shared folders on PCs running windows xp or 98?

Asked by DennisC

Hello,

I have just installed Ubuntu v.5.10. I am new to open source software like linux. My pc is connected to a domain in our office. I have managed to connect it to the domain. I can view the computers in the domain. By the way, our domain is run by an NT server.

My problem is that when I try to find the share folders of the pc running windows xp using my pc running Ubuntu, I could not see the shared folder. Even the shared printer.

How can I solve my problem? Can you help me?

hello...
Since you want to see the shared folders in windows XP...in your ubuntu linux go to places -> connect to server, a window will open in server type choose windows share, in server type the IP address of the windows XP with shared folders, then in share just type the name of the shared folders...then click O.K. and then it will ask you for a password in your windows machine...

Thank you...Hope it will help...

Thanks a lot guys. It seems that I just need to add the user to samba. I typed the command - sudo smbpasswd -a <user>. It worked for me. Thanks again
