Booting entirely from 8.04 386

Using the menu System→Administration→Partition Editor erase the already installed linux partitions... then install on the free space.

Ubuntu 8.04 is rather old and you must consider to install from ubuntu-8.04.3-desktop-i386.iso

Here all the torrents links http://torrent.ubuntu.com:6969/

Please consider to upgrade your system installing Ubuntu 9.04 or wait some days and install the Ubuntu 9.10

Better...

You must boot your pc entirely from Ubuntu live desktop 8.04 386...

Using the menu System→Administration→Partition Editor erase the already installed linux partitions... then install on the free space.

Can you wait another 10 Days or two weeks ... Ubuntu is rolling out its latest version 9.10 so why don't you opt for that because it has new features and formats also they have changed ext3 to ext4 ... grub also changed.. better wait for some time then do the fresh installation... There are many things getting changed compared to 9.04 so wait and remove unwanted files from your hdd by deleting them from trash folder (recycle bin)

In October 22 the release candidate will be out and you can download and install from it

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KarmicReleaseSchedule

or if you can't or don't want wait please install using the daily

Ubuntu live image http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

or

the Ubuntu alternate cd http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/

or beta releases are the Ubuntu 9.10 iso files in the http://torrent.ubuntu.com:6969/ link

Hope this helps
