No thumbnail updates anymore

I had a Nautilus window with several files open. The computer was in the process of making thumbnails, when i suddenly stopped doing it. After that the computer has refused to update or making thumbnails in other folders too.
I have restored the thumbnails folder and subfolders from backup. That did not change anything.
I have also restored the cache folders tracker subfolder. That did not change anything either.
What should I try next?

Make sure nautilus is set to display thumbnails. Open nautilus >> Edit -> Preferences > Preview
and check settings
