Nautilus exits silently copying files >2G

In copying files from a windows box to this Ubuntu box Nautilus 2.14.3
Nautilus exited suddenly and silently upon hitting the 2G limit of a 4 gigabyte jpg (I assume a corrupt one).
I felt it was rather rude and abrupt since I had to sit through it several time before I finally caught it.
At the time I was using my catchall Ubuntu box to backup a friends data from a windows box before erasing it.
