Toolbar disappeared from nautilus after upgrading.

Asked by pepperblue

My toolbar got disappeared(ie, the bar under the menubar, that has forward and backward button, addressbar etc), after upgrading it. I added two repositories(eb http://ppa.launchpad.net/bisigi/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/bisigi/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main) and got upgraded. now i got kernel 2.6.31-9-generic with 2.6.31-5-generic. I am using jaunty now. how can i restore my toolbar?

Hello there,

open Nautilus. Go to View -> Click 'Main Toolbar'

Does that work?

Hi :)

Try looking in the "View" menu, perhaps it somhow got unticked? It's usually called something like "Navigation toolbar" or "Main toolbar"

Good luck and i hope this does fix it! ;)

Yup, i had done that before adding this question. i tried all i know. To be precise, a tool 'bar' is shown in that place, but is empty, that no buttons and address bar. the 'loading signal' is present and working.

Ok, i would use Synaptic Package Manager
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto
to find and reinstall "nautilus". Also in Synaptic go up to the "Edit" menu and choose "Fix broken packages". Then click the "Apply" button.

Hopefully?
Good luck and regards from

nothing helps... I think the address bar and main toolbar are of different pose. i dont hav option for address bar in 'edit' as i saw in live cd. but the main menu is clicked. i done as u said Tom, but it does nothing.

Ok, lets try another plan. Open the "Home" folder from the "Places" menu. Use the "View" menu to make sure you can see all the hidden folders and files and everything. Scroll down until you see a folder called ".nautilus", right-click and rename it to ".nautilus-old". Hopefully a new ".nautilus" folder should appear? Try closing and reopening the file-browser now and see if it does look better? Perhaps this should have been done from the command-line?

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

No.. I think my nautilus is a test-version that somebody might hav changed and added to repositories!!! The best thing i could do is to reinstall the OS. and done that.
