F-Spot Photo Manager has a slide show function. You will find it under Applications, Graphics.

Also worthy of mention is the xscreensaver can do slide shows as a screensaver. GL has a slide show screensaver as well, and may be installed by default on your Ubuntu, but not sure how to configure it.
Further, if you're talking about a PRESENTATION, OpenOffice's Impress can do a slide show presentation (much like PowerPoint does for Windows users).

The default Image Viewer has this option too.
When you are in a directory which contains some imafe files open one of them, then hit F5 and they will appear as a slideshow. You can tune the show behaviour by Edit-->Preferences.
Also you can open several files of this directory by File-->Open and marking them with the mouse in combination with the keys Shift or Alt.

Can you help with this problem?
