How can I format vista from ubuntu?

Asked by UbuntuUser

I just installed ubuntu onto my computer through windows vista. Now that I have ubuntu I want to erase everything else completely off of my computer but have no idea how. I originally wanted to just format my computer and install ubuntu and i was attempting that with a thumb drive but it gave me some error code and i'm stuck with both. please help... All i want is ubuntu installed on my computer working properly. no vista, no nothing, just the programs i get off the internet through a fresh, working ubuntu. I would really like to do this with a thumb drive but the directions at www.ubuntu.com confused the hell out of me.

thanks

The document that Bhavani Shankar links to explains how to install Windows XP next to Ubuntu; however, this will not change anything within Ubuntu, you should only install Windows if you actually want to use Windows itself.

As for installing Safari, you might try the following link, it is somewhat old, but should still work: http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008/03/howto-install-safari-on-ubuntu-with.html

Also, notice that you do not need a special filesystem – be it FAT32 or anything else – to use Windows programmes through Wine, nor do you need a recovery disc or anything from Windows: either Wine (with some tweaking) can handle it, or it cannot.

Finally, you might want to try alternatives that run natively in Linux (e.g. Firefox); this saves you the trouble of doing everything through Wine.
