Basic knowledge on Linux

Asked by James Yang

Hello, I just start Ubuntu 5.10 in VMware which requires to install VMware tools from the command line with the Tar Installer. But how can I go to the command line? - Currently I am on the desktop.

P.S.: This is the 1st time I run Linux OS.:)

Thanks,
J.Y.

Hi James,

Just click on the Applications menu at the top of your screen (left side), then go to Accessoires and then click on Terminal.

then you can use tar -xzf <pathname> to untar it and then run one of the scripts. i think its optional to install VMWare tools. I suggest you to put the tar file in your home folder as its easier to untar
