No notification when ejecting an external drive (usb flash drive etc..)

Asked by Justin on 2019-01-30

My Problem:
In Ubuntu 18.04.1 with GNOME nautilus 3.26.4, There is no notification when ejecting an external drive. It's hard to tell when it is safe to remove the drive from the computer. I've corrupted several usb flash drives already. It's really painful to have your drive stop working 10 minutes before a presentation.

My Question:
Where can I request that better notification is added to Nautilus? I want the notification to, clearly and simply, let the user know when it is safe to eject a drive. I read that it was an upstream decision, to remove the notification. I hope they can add it back soon. I think it is desperately needed.

My Current Solution:
Until GNOME Nautilus adds better notifications for ejecting external drives, I will be using the Nemo version of the file browser. The notifications in Nemo have been satisfactory enough that I've had no more issues with external drives.

Thank you.
