Please open nautilus

Nautilus come in front of you:
- select a file you want change default open application
- right click with mouse a drop down menu come in front of you
- go to the "Open with.." and select the desired, already listed, applications or select the bottom line "Open with other application" and select one from the list.

Hope this helps

Okey! that helped but macroba i was looking that the mess had to be caused because of some problem can't we fix it by fixing a single thing.
BTW i tried the solution you suggested, but it is a temporary solution. it does not change the default application to open the file. so the next time i open that file i've to choose like image viewer to view that image.
And yeah, i have ubuntu 8.10

In the "Open with..." menu, either choose "Open with other application", or right-click on the file itself, select "Properties", switch to the tab "Open With", and choose an application. These methods will store that application as default.
