File Browser - adding Icons

Asked by srikumar

I would like to add the CUT, COPY, PASTE icons onto the File Browser menu icon bar so that it becomes more easier and faster to use than having to click on the drop down menus each time.

Is there a way to do this ?
or is it possible to view an additional Tool Bar with these items ?

any suggestions ?
thank you

Wow, I don't know how to that ...
But maybe you can use some shortcut to do that

it's like

ctrl+c = copy
ctrl+x = cut
ctrl+v = paste

Thank you

Thank you I was already aware of the short cut keys including ctrl+a which helps me to select all files in the folder - still this is "hard" work compared to clicking on an icon in the menu. P

Perhaps some version upgrade in the future would include an optional tool bar to achieve this. In the meantime we will close this question.

thank you

The situation got even worst with the new version 3.xx.

Before there was a workaround to add cut/copy/paste to the toolbar by editing /usr/share/nautilus/ui/nautilus-navigation-window-ui.xml and adding some lines (see http://linux-software-news-tutorials.blogspot.com/2010/12/add-buttons-for-new-folder-copy-cut.html).

Now the file seem to have been replaced by /usr/share/nautilus/ui/nautilus-toolbar-ui.xml but trying to hack it doesn't work anymore.

I, for instance, prefer to use icons rather than shortcuts or right-click sub menu for some common tasks in a file manager.
Therefore the option to customize the toolbar is a major point in my opinion. Unfortunately the already existing bug was marked as "Confirmed → Won't Fix".
