Desktop Icons - to delete

Asked by srikumar

I have installed the following package hplip-2.8.12 and this icon sits on my desktop. It will not permit me to trash it - "hplip-2.8.12" cannot be moved to the trash"
When I try to delete it states - The folder "hplip-2.8.12" cannot be handled because you do not have permissions to read it."
How do I get rid of this icon from by desktop?

any suggesions?
Thanks
srikumar

Try Open your nautilus as root

Press alt+F2

when small box appear, type this

gksu nautilus

And search your desktop, in filesystem - home - your home name - desktop

try to delete it ...

Thank you

opened nautilus but could not find the hplip 2.8.12 icon - even after enabling hidden files option. This icon has the emblems red padlock (read only) and a red cross (unredable) attached to it, Properties states as follows:-
Type : folder (inode/directory)
Contents: unreadable
Location : /home/srikumar/Desktop
owner : root

Does this help ?

thanks

the offending icon is located at
/home/srikumar/Desktop/hplip-2.8.12

when the nautilus command is run, i am unable to locate this file or directory. It does not permit to enter the home directory.

Any way around this ?
thanks srikumar
