Can't permanently delete file in trash. 8.10

Asked by Bob

Can't permanently delete file in trash in 8.10.

I have a file stuck in my trash that I can't delete. It says I do not have permission.

It says "Error removing file: Permission denied"

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bob.

At the command line type: sudo nautilus Nautilus will open up and you will be able to delete the file.

Thanks, that did the trick for visible files in the trash but there are two folders left in the trash folder when I check: /home/bob/.local/share/Trash.

They are; files and info. There is nothing in either one and if I try to remove them they are recreated. Are they permanent files that are needed?

Thanks in advance. Bob.

If the two files you are seeing by accessing the trash file in that manner, are 1. Files 2. Info, then yes, they are part of the trash can it's self. Files: owns the actual files being deleted. Info: owns the information pertaining to the files. Those files can not be removed. To see how they work, copy and paste a file into Trash. Then go to $HOME /bob/.local/share/Trash/ as you did before, and you will see that in each folder, is a file about the one you just cut and pasted. When you empty the trash can the {file & info} folders will be empty. They are merely virtual and are not taking up any space on you computer.
