are you trying to install a program from a CD? if so what program. or are you trying to watch a dvd movie?

Movie? Try installing libdvdread3, libdvdnav4 thrugh Synaptic Package Manager ...

System menu on top taskbar - Administration - Synaptic's near the end

Game/Program? Install Wine from Synaptic and visit
