Nautilus does not display avi previews

Asked by Michał Gołębiowski-Owczarek

This issue:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/7856
is still not solved for me. As somebody mentioned, when nautilus is run as root, preview works (so I shouldn't have to install any new packages). To be funny even more, it displays thumbnails to ALL files, not only those of size < 5 MB (although root's nautilus is set to display thumbnails only to files smaller than 5 MB).

What can I do to fix this behaviour?

Why would you run nautilus as root in a place with movie files, where I assume you don't need root privileges?

I'm sorry, it turned out that my computer just needed a reboot for changes to take effect, as user's nautilus is always working, whereas root's one only when directly run.

As for the issue with file sizes - I didn't know that this limit involves only images, not video files (and it is not clearly explained in preferences window - maybe should be?).

Thanks for help.
