I installed Ubuntu and now it wont boot. Is there a way to check the disk or do I have to reinstall?

When I start my computer UBUNTU shows up on the screen and the orange bar starts to fill in. Then the screen goes blank and nothing happens. I see the hard drive LED blinking, but once it stops nothing else happens. I was wondering if there is a way to run a scan disk on the hard drive or do I have to reinstall Ubuntu. Is there a fix boot?

in the first menu you can choose recovery mode, get into ubuntu here and follow all instructions.
