volume icons are not shown on desktop

Asked by Günter

After each start of the computer the icons of the different volumes are not shown on the desktop. They appear again after opening the respective volume in the panel folder "places". I'm using GNOME-Desktop version 2.22.3. Cannot start the previously used file in for example OOo.Calc under the command "file - recent documents" without prior opening the volume to bring the icon on the desktop.

that's the way gvfs mounts are working, changing to an user question rather than a bug

Your problem is the volumes are not automatically mounting when you boot the computer.

Volume will only show up on the desktop when they are mounted. They ¨appear again¨ because you mounted them while opening them. To make them mount automatically you must modify you /etc/fstab file.

Please read the community document regard your /etc/fstab file.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab

If you still have problems, you should mount all your volumes and get them to appear on the desktop. Then open a terminal and type these commands

sudo blkid
df
cat /etc/fstab

Please tell.... the output of these commands and we can help you make the proper edit to your /etc/fstab

Hope this helps
