Updating avast antivirus

Asked by sajidwasif

Does anyone know how I can update the avast antivirus database? So far I've only been able to run the program from terminal. But not sure how to update.

By the way, can anyone recommend a good linux antivirus that doesn't only require the terminal to run? Are there some that runs like the ones on windows?

Thanks

You really don't need anti-virus for linux... Have you come from windows?

Laurie is correct in saying that you have a much more reduced risk of viruses/spyware on Linux, however it is advisable to still run one.

A good one to run in AVG, it is all GUI, instructions on how to install are available here

I still use windows. Have used it for 10 years. Since Vista is a little too slow, I use Ubuntu to do basic jobs. So I really don't need an antivirus for Ubuntu? Is it because it's safe? Or is it because programmers don't bother to create them to target the minority group of users?????

No no, it is really because there are less viruses, here is an article if you wish to read more into the matter

It was just a bad pun. I really like Lunux. I tried to install Ubuntu last year. But for some reason, i just couldn't create a good installable CD. So I kept working with Vista, until a couple of months ago when they released servicepack1. After about a hundred tries, My laptop vista update system gave up. I tried it manually and then spent 1.5 hours on the phone with a vista tech to finally find out a bunch of my files were corrupted. Had to reinstall vista. (this was the 2nd time). Then I realized that I might need an extra OS for emergencies, in case vista pulls another vista!. I like windows. XP did the job smoothly. Vista ruined it. I hope 7 fixes the errors.
