how do i recover deleted files after selecting "delete all" option

when i was moving documents from one folder to the next, i deleted them from one folder before i added them to the other and when i was prompted to delete them it said "Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?" and i selected "DELETE ALL" and now i can't recover them, pls help! can i recover my deleted files?

i'm running linux Ubuntu 8.04 and GNOME 2.22.3 if any of that helps.

Firstly, please try and mark questions with the appropriate package, it will aid in you getting the answer you require much faster :) I feel nautilus is far more appropriate here than firefox-3.0, I have altered it.

With regard to file recovery I have not come across a tried and tested method myself, probably not most helpful, but I suggest regular backups as a far simpler solution in future.
