La verdad no sé qué hacer, pues me urge; en internet he encontrado algunas sugerencias pero no sé nada de programación y luego indican cosas que no sé.

Fíjate que hay un espacio después de lshw y otro después de -C

Desde luego que por cable, como ahora estoy, sí me puedo conectar, mi problema es por wifi y mi equipo que es una ACER aspire one tiene una wifi Atheros dice: Acer Invilink 802.11bg.

Ok. Instala linux-restricted-modules-generic y madwifi-tools, de esta forma:

* Abre el Synaptic Package Manager.
* En la caja de búsqueda rápida pon "atheros" sin las comillas
* Clic derecho -> Marcar para instalación en "madwifi-tools" y en "linux-restricted-modules" (puede que lleve el número de versión, pero empezará por "linux-restricted-modules").
* Pulsa en aplicar.
* Espera a que se instale. Entonces reinicia, y vuelve a ponernos la salida de lshw -C network

Instala linux-restricted-modules a secas y se te marcará el que necesites.

Lo siento jrgoyzueta, debería haberme fijado mejor. Tu tarjeta no está soportada hasta Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) que sale en octubre.

Mientras, puedes aplicar una solución temporal:

* Igual que antes, instala build-essential

Ahora te pongo una serie de comandos para que pongas en la terminal, como antes el lshw -C network. Luego te digo qué hacen...

wget http://snapshots.madwifi.org/special/madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007.tar.gz
tar xfz madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007.tar.gz
cd madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007
make
sudo make install

Si en algún paso ves algún error, avisa. Reinicia y entonces vuelve a mostrarnos la salida de lshw -C network.

Con estos pasos lo que haces es bajarte ese archivo, descomprimirlo, cambiar al directorio donde se descomprime, compilar el driver y después instalarlo.

ya lo he hecho sólo que me haa permitido hasta tar.gz y creo que lo ha ejecutado correctos sólo que cuando metí: cd madwifi... ya no me dejó avanzar pues menciona que no existe el fichero.

No, tengo gmail o jabber si te sirve. Te has olvidado del "tar xfz madwifi-ng-r2756+ar5007.tar.gz" :( por eso no encuentra el directorio, porque no has extraído el archivo.

Yo tuve un problema similar, el caso fue que tuve que instalar madwifi
para mi atheros AR242x 802.11abg, y lo solucione de la siguiente
manera.

1. descargarte el mdwifi mas reciente que lo encuentras en
http://snapshots.madwifi.org/special/
2. sigue estos sencillos pasos http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo

Aclaro que mi equipo Acer Aspire one LInux, si tiene la Wifi que menciono, inicialmente con el sistema que tenía antes de instalar UBUNTU ya la había utilizado y todo muy bien; ha dejado de estar activa a partir de haberle instalado UBUNTU, que se me hace un excelente sistema lo único que no me ha funcionado es la WIFI.

Genial, con eso ya lo tienes funcionando. Tal y como te estoy comentando por el gmail, clic izquierdo en el icono de las conexiones, y ahi seleccionas red, etc. etc.
