Single Mouse Click - easy in XDE where in Gnome?

Asked by Tory

In Xde it was easy to find the single mouse click option. I dont see it in Gnome/Ubuntu 8.04 LTS updated.
In reading the posts I dont see nautilus as an option, and if I go to add/remove and type it it gives me the accessory part. Once installed in seems to just organize System-->Preferences (no new options).

Any thoughts? Single click rules!

System menu, Preferences, Mouse for all the mouse preferences.

What mouse behaviour are you trying to achieve?

Hello

pretty simple mate

Fire up a terminal and enter the below command:

sudo gconf-editor

configuration editor will open then navigate through

apps/nautilus/preferences

Change click_policy to single (click on double in click_policy and change it to single and press enter)

Now your single click should work

Regards

Bhavani Shankar.

For Tony: I am trying to have a program execute, or folder open with a single mouse click.

For Bhavani: I followed the steps you mentioned - (no errors). DId a reboot and still have the old behavior. When I go back and check the nautilus prefer it shows single click. I am using a normal microsoft usb mouse.

Mahalo for both; its a wonderful community!

SO if you go to Nautilus and choose Edit menu, Preferences, Behaviour

There is an option in there for Single-click to open items.

Is that selected for you?

To Tony:

using the terminal approach to get to nautilis (cant find it on a regular menu) it is selected as single, did the reboot, and still it takes 2 clicks to open anything. I also checked to make sure it "kept" the setting and its still there.

thanks,

T

Nautilus is the normal file browser in Gnome.
So go to the Places menu and choose the "Home" folder.
Then, in the window that opens displaying the Home folder, go to edit menu, preferences, behaviour and set single click there.
