soundblaster card doesn't work

I installed ubuntu 8 on my gateway, i have a soundblaster audigy card installed on it, help, no sound. I am a sound freak! I
can not live with a mute computer. what do i install to fix it? And I can not get anythiing to install onto my computer. Nothing else since I loaded Ubuntu. It won't even let me install edubuntu on it.. What do I do?

First the card - it might be that you have a digital/analog switch - dbl clk the volume icon - if there is a tab for switches check there for the analog/digital jack - disable it.

Secondly the installing problems - we need more information, when you try to install what happens. Try this from a terminal and psot the output

sudo apt-get install edubuntu-desktop
