cannot read all floppies that I used in Windows

Asked by ETejeda

I cannot seem to see any files at all in eight 3.5 in. floppy disks that I formatted in Windows.
Trying to open a Word file from one of the floppies in OpenOffice and floppy drive simply displays no files. No error messages.
Same with all other floppies.
I am using Ubuntu 7.10. on a Dell Dimension L1000r.

Try this in a terminal and see if it helps:
sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g

Also, are you certain the floppy is mounted properly?

Floppies are not formatted with ntfs.

Try inserting and accessing a floppy, then with it still in the drive, do the following in a terminal:
dmesg
mount

Paste the output of these commands into this question, and it'll help track down the problem.

I am unable to format any floppies using the documentation that you provide on the site.
I checked and GFloppy is on the drive. I have mounted the floppy drive several times and it appears on the desktop. I wrote a test file saved it on an old floppy but cannot format. What's wrong?
Only new thing I did was to install the "listed" updates.
