file permissions

New to Linux and Ubuntu...how to setup persmissions so Windows machines can see shares on Linux and change owner on Linux shares so files can be modified. All Windows machines say don't have persmission. Unable to modify smbpasswd.

Samba configuration tends to be specific to your particular circumstances, so it can be difficult to suggest a particular setup which will work for you. Take a look at some of the following howto guides:

Especially, read the section called 'Fast Start', which should hopefully get you up and running pretty quickly.
