There is no root password in Ubuntu by default, so that will fail.
Please do NOT advise users how to set a root password, it being unset helps dig them out of lots of holes. If you want to set it on your own system(s) then fine but don't have users setting root passwords.

If the user forgets the root password too then to dig them out you will need to advise how to chroot from liveCD and reset the password there. Or you can not be dumb, leave it alone and have them boot to root recovery console which is not only easier but is drastically quicker.

Using the root account as is means the support comunity can fix things quicker rather than getting them out of scrapes the long way, just because of poor advice by few. The root account is disabled for a reason. The OS you are using is made by a group of users who I am VERY sure know a lot more about the OS than you do and have made it in such a way that it is secure but easy to resolve issues with (using root recovery).

Thanks
